My Review

First Impressions: Talk about an action packed start. In the first pages Nikki is chased by hell hounds.


Plot & Characters: Not one, not two but three supernatural mysterious guys. Mace, Raven, and Vine are trying to find out what it is about Nikki that causes the forces of darkness to want her dead. I enjoyed the love triangle, the strong female character and learning about the history and role of Halflings. The mysterious villain is someone I wish to learn more about in the next installment of this series.


There are many parts where you can predict what will happen next and wonder why it is taking the character so long to figure things out. There are other parts where you are left wondering and trying to figure out what is going on. The writing is good but I just don't feel that Halflings offers anything different from the rest of the YA angel paranormal romance novels that are out there. I enjoyed it and will read the next one mostly because I want to find out more about the villain.


Final Thoughts: If you are a hard core YA paranormal romance reader that cannot get enough  love triangles, mysterious bad boys, "I love you but It's better if we are not together" conflict and demon fighting angels then you will enjoy Halflings.


Buy, Borrow or Skip: Borrow for now, I really have to see where this story is going. The first book was good but nothing stood out.

My Review:
I have no idea why but when i started reading this book i thought it was a YA paranormal romance. Maybe it was the beautiful cover or me just totally ignoring the word erotic in the blurb. Either way it is not a young adult book but a romance novel with Gothic undertones. 


Demon lover began magically, I felt like I was reading one of my favorite Gothic novel. The mood, the amazing Honeysuckle house in the woods, the town and all its secrets, created the perfect environment for this story. The world Juliet Dark created captured your attention from the beginning.


My problem was with the characters and mostly just Callie. I understand that it might be difficult for a rational person to accept that a shadow man really does appear and make love to her but it just takes her too long to figure things out. Then when it comes to making decisions on how to act she does them too quickly with out too much thinking. I guess me being bothered by the action of one character means that the author did a good job at getting me engulfed in the story where I care about the outcome but I might have enjoyed it more if I was not yelling at her in mind constantly.


The ending was not my favorite and it got a bit annoying because of her actions but I will definitely give this series another chance and hopefully Callie learns from her mistakes and makes better decisions in the next book of this magical series.


The folklore of Fairwick was one of the elements that make this a great story. Yes, the whole incubus trying to suck the life out of Callie was interesting but there is more mystery surrounding the characters that I cannot wait to discover.


Demon Lover is a great read if you enjoy paranormal romance and references to other great books.

My Review:

Having magical powers is not all fun and games. That is what Sophie learns after her well intentioned love spell goes terribly wrong. As punishment she is sent to Hex-Hall, a reform school dedicated to teaching Prodigium (magical creatures) how to properly use their powers.

Sophie gets paired with the only vampire in the school and she begins to crush on the boyfriend of the leader of a group of girls that not only can make Sophie's life at Hex Hall very difficult but also seem to have a secret agenda. To make matters worst students begin to die and the already hard magical life gets dangerous.

A great start to a this series. Sophie is a fun, witty character that makes you laugh. This quick paced story is a great read for anyone that enjoys paranormal magical school drama. It will leave you wanting more.

My Review:
Misfit, introduces us to Jael a 16 year old half demon. She has a hard time fitting in because she is always moving to different parts of the world with her father. When it appears that everything is going good because she has friends and a love interest the discovery of her origin endangers it all. It turns out that Jael's mother was a powerful demon that fell in love with a human. Everything would be a great family story if not because half breeds are seen as an abomination. Jael's mother was killed by a demon that won't rest until he sees her dead as well. So, not only does she have to deal with regular teenage problems but also learn things about her demon half all while trying to survive and not get killed by the powerful demon that killed her mother. Yeah, I wouldn't want to be in her shoes.

I liked that it was about a half demon girl. She was the one that had paranormal powers not a mysterious stranger. I also enjoyed her relationship with Rob because it grew out of them getting to know each other not just because of their great looks or an irresistible pull.

I didn't like the ending, I was expecting more action and a more emotional scene when she confronts her mother's killer.  I also didn't like the change of POV. A few chapters are from Jael's father point of view. The change in tense was also confusing it jumps back and forth from present to past and it was a little confusing at first to understand what was going on.

Overall, it was a good read. I recommend it to anyone that enjoys reading about demons, demon hunters, and a girl trying to find her place.
